For as long as I wanted to swim, I also wanted to do something on TV. My best friend in high school, we used to pretend like we had a TV show, and we had this dream of being the next 'Kate & Allie.' Having that kind of a shtick. Summer Sanders alliedreamfriend share on social
I've been barefoot most of my life: either flip flops or barefoot on the pool deck. Although you'd think that would make me a good candidate for barefoot running, that doesn't work with me. Summer Sanders barefootcandidatedeck Change image and share on social
I'm not the athlete I was when I was training for the Olympics in '92 or when I was working out every single day. I have to live in moderation: I work out three or four days a week, and I smile while I'm working out - I really do enjoy it. I work out with my girlfriends and make it a social competition. If there's any indirect way I can motivate or inspire Olympic athletes... that is one of the greatest honors. Even Natalie Coughlin saying that I inspired her. I'm so humbled by that. I think that's amazing. Summer Sanders amazeathletecoughlin share on social
I don't care how much you're working out; when you go to put on that bikini, you're like, 'Oh no!' Summer Sanders bikinicareput Change image and share on social
It really was my brother who got me involved in swimming. I wanted to be just like him and do everything he was doing. Summer Sanders brotherinvolveswim Change image and share on social
The 2013 Boston Marathon was, for me, a milestone. A bucket list event that was supposed to be my last marathon until my next big milestone, turning 50. But I couldn't leave marathoning on a memory like that, so I am running this year to honor everyone in the running community and those unsung heroes from April 15, 2013. When people say, 'Hey, wanna come to our house for dinner?' I say, 'Yeah, what should I bring?' They say, 'How about the dessert?' I just don't skimp on the dessert. I make it the yummy way it should be made, and then I just don't eat the whole pan. Summer Sanders bringdessertdinner share on social
The first lesson my kids got about the ocean was to respect it. You can never turn your back on the ocean when you're dealing with tides and currents - factors beyond your control. You have to be the CEO of your family on the water. CEO stands for 'constant eyes on,' and it's something I never forget. Summer Sanders backceoconstant share on social
That's what I love about running - I feel like we all celebrate each other. Even if you're racing somebody at the finish, it's like you're in it together. Summer Sanders celebratefeelfinish Change image and share on social
