What happens is things come to you - director, script - and if you respond to it, it's because it's tapping into some part of what's inside you, and different roles tap into different parts.

I think for any actor, for the roles they deeply, truly want? They always have to audition for them.

So I was hugely thrilled that my first scene ever on camera was with Hal Holbrook.

The whole cast of 'Company' was invited to Hal Prince's house. This is one of the highlights of my life. We all sat in the living room. Sitting on the floor, I was right by the piano.
