Martin Ryle

I was born on September 27, 1918, the second of five children.

In 1947 I married Rowena Palmer, and we have two daughters, Alison and Claire, and a son, John.

In 1948 I was appointed to a Lectureship in Physics and in 1949 elected to a Fellowship at Trinity College.

I didn't understand how you could be an actor if you didn't also study philosophy and study political science, astronomy. And also just go out and live life and have experiences.

I would like to see the day when somebody would be appointed surgeon somewhere who had no hands, for the operative part is the least part of the work.

I have thrown chairs, but only during football matches. Generally, I am well-behaved. I do not like to make people angry.
