I don't remember a time when I didn't define myself as a writer.

I definitely feel that plot flows from character. I don't believe that you can construct a plot and insert people into it.

I write for the same reason I read: to find out what's going to happen.

People say, 'Where do you live?' and I say that theoretically, I live in London, but basically that's just where I go to change my suitcase. Otherwise, I'm always flying somewhere.

Deep down, there is in the substance of the cosmos a primordial disposition, sui generis, for self-arrangement and self-involution.

As a writer, I try to do different things, but I'm not going to become a darker artist or turn into Radiohead overnight. I don't think that's my style.
