I auditioned for 'The Office,' and I don't know if it was a role I could do, but I liked the character. You do one take, and you're reading with a person who's just sitting in a chair and not really... you're not playing off someone, which is what I like to do. I like to play around and find the moment.

I auditioned for the part of Cosette in 'Les Miserables' on Broadway. It didn't work out.

I auditioned for the role of Jamie Mitchell in 'EastEnders,' and it was between me and Jack Ryder, and he got it.
‐‐ Russell Tovey
I auditioned for this agency. I got an advertisement first, and then something else, which I got fired from. It was soul-destroying. And then the next thing I got, I thought was going to be my big break, and they cut the role. It was only the year that I started auditioning for 'Star Wars' when I really started getting roles.
‐‐ Daisy Ridley
I auditioned for 'West Side Story' and got the part of Tony, but wasn't allowed to do it. They needed me to play trumpet. But I was glad, in the end, because I learned a lot about playing that score.
‐‐ Stephen Costello
I auditioned in Chicago for Juilliard and didn't get in. I was basically living in a back room of my parents' house, paying rent and not doing anything with my life. I'd like to say it was patriotic to join the Marines, but it was also that I was doing nothing honorable with my life and spending too much time at McDonald's.
‐‐ Adam Driver
I auditioned just for fun.
‐‐ Clay Aiken
I auditioned nine times for 'Delhi Belly,' and it was torturous!

I avoid clients for whom advertising is only a marginal factor in their marketing mix. They have an awkward tendency to raid their advertising appropriations whenever they need cash for other purposes.
‐‐ David Ogilvy
I avoid conflict - like, any conflict - at all costs. I hate it. Even at a restaurant, if I get the wrong order, I'll just eat it anyway because I don't want to make an issue.

I avoid Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, and if I need to communicate with someone, I email direct.
‐‐ Martin Parr
I avoid going through places where there's too much poverty.
‐‐ Loretta Lynn
I avoid listening to too many people's comments about my script. I have learned to take in what is of use. It's too frustrating looking at somebody's notes who didn't get what you were doing. If somebody says, 'This stinks, and here are all the reasons,' that's not going to help you.
‐‐ Melissa Mathison
I avoid looking in the mirror.
‐‐ Marina Warner
I avoid my neighbors - luckily, my building has two exits.
‐‐ Lynn Samuels
I avoid preset sounds wherever possible, and all the sounds I use I have edited.

I avoid talking about the way I work. But in avoiding it I seem only to have encouraged people to focus their fantasies about me in an ever more fantastical way.
‐‐ Daniel Day-Lewis
I avoid talking before the youth of the age as I would dancing before them: for if one's tongue don't move in the steps of the day, and thinks to please by its old graces, it is only an object of ridicule.

I avoid the media circus, keep my head down and try to keep growing and learning things.

‐‐ Billy Crudup
I avoid writing about sex out of a certainty that no matter how grown up and matter-of-fact I might try to be, there is a snickering yet nun-terrorized 12-year-old-boy inside me who would at some point be certain to grab the reins in his hairy palms.
‐‐ Lynn Coady
I avoided as much work as possible in the classroom, but did all the work possible on the ball field.
‐‐ Chuck Klein
I avoided nudity unless a film couldn't be told without those scenes. If you look at my films, few of them have that element, yet nudity and male fantasies have become emblematic of my work.
‐‐ Greta Scacchi
I awake, I meditate, get the kids off to school, go to the gym, go to the Favored Nations office, and usually at around 1 pm I'm home and do music the rest of the day.
‐‐ Steve Vai
I awake with a not entirely sickened knowledge that I am merely young again and in a funny way at peace, an observer who is aware of time's chariot, aware that some metamorphosis has occurred.
‐‐ Harold Brodkey
I.B.M. was my college education, effectively. They were very good at teaching you management.
‐‐ Mike McCue
I.B.M. was not really bringing their best technologies to India. They were dumping old machines in the country that had been thrown away in the rest of the world 10 years before.
‐‐ Azim Premji
I babysat kids in a ShopRite, which is a grocery store. They had a babysitting center so that parents could bring their children while they shopped. It was awful. I also was not very good at keeping the kids calm.

I bake bread nearly every day; I use Jim Lahey's no-knead method and leave it to rise overnight.
‐‐ Ruth Reichl
I baked bread, hand-ground peanuts into butter, grew and froze vegetables, and, every morning, packed lunches so healthful that they had no takers in the grand swap-fest of the lunchroom.
‐‐ Sally Mann
I balance family and career by doing what makes me the happiest! That for me, without question, is putting my family and kids first.
‐‐ Bridgette Wilson
I balance my hormones with bioidentical hormones, I eat organic, I take supplements as determined by lab work, I sleep eight hours nightly, I use organic cosmetics and green household cleaners, and I avoid toxins as best I can.
‐‐ Suzanne Somers
I balance my meals. I have never been a big dessert guy.
‐‐ Robert Herjavec

I barely ever watch TV, but when I do, I usually only watch MTV shows, like 'The Real World Sydney.'
