Writing for children is an art in itself, and a most interesting one.

My work in books, films and talks lies almost wholly with children, and I have very little time to give to grown-ups.

If one can judge from the letters that I receive, it would seem that there are many thousands of children who would like me to speak or to read to them.

Another thing that freaks me out is time. Time is like a book. You have a beginning, a middle and an end. It's just a cycle.

As a young child my attention span was, as I remember it, rather short.

Well, I actually wrote her a letter a couple of days ago congratulating her. The tone I tried to convey in the letter is, look, you are a part of a great American historical process.
