I'm famous today. People like me today. Might not like me tomorrow. You can't count on it.

You can become famous but you can't become unfamous. You can become infamous but not unfamous.

The hardest thing to do is to be true to yourself, especially when everybody is watching.

Although I write to entertain, and try to keep my work free of didacticism, I do have a rather passionate belief in our need to be connected to - and to learn from - history.

I feel sorry for generations of Labour voters and supporters who must look and wonder what on earth has gone wrong and what Labour is for.
