Alan Hansen

I always wanted to be a golfer, only I realised that if I'd played golf I would have been skint.

I had no plans once I finished my football career, which was a problem, so I had to go looking for work. Television was the one area that it was easier to get a job than anywhere else.

I only started concentrating on football as a career when I left school at 18. I played golf for the Scottish and British boys' teams.

Some politicians that I've seen have been brilliant with the public. They almost speak with the skill of an actor.

I don't really go out that much, if I'm honest. I'm quite a recluse. If I had my way, I'd probably be at home most of the time with a book and a cup of tea or glass of wine.

My father loved Brazilian football, a diehard follower, so of course, he hated Germany and always rooted against them, always.
